Applied Packaging Research: Bulge Reduction
The study evaluates a bulge reduction technology for corrugated fiberboard containers, focusing on the impact of reinforcement tape on the out-of-plane displacement of Regular Slotted Containers (RSC) under static compression. Various container designs were tested in different environmental conditions (ambient, tropical, and refrigerated). The research revealed that reinforcement tape significantly reduces bulging under ambient conditions, enhancing stacking strength and rigidity while potentially minimizing material usage. However, the tape’s effectiveness in tropical and refrigerated environments was not statistically significant. The findings suggest that optimizing board stiffness and moisture resistance, alongside reinforcement tape application, can improve container performance.
