Polyolefin Adhesives

Polyolefin adhesives play a crucial role in the production of absorbent hygiene products such as diapers, adult incontinence items, and medical drapes. Unlike traditional cloth diapers, modern disposables rely on a complex multi-layer design incorporating various materials held together by specialized adhesives. The choice of adhesive significantly impacts product functionality and cost-effectiveness. Three primary types of adhesives are used: Styrene Block Copolymers (SBC), Amorphous Poly-alpha-olefins (APAO), and Metallocene Polyolefins (mPO). mPOs are gaining preference due to their superior performance characteristics, cost stability, and reduced manufacturing issues compared to SBCs and APAOs. The precise control of mPO chemistry allows manufacturers to customize adhesive properties for enhanced productivity and product quality. H.B. Fuller has led the way in commercializing mPO adhesives, offering extensive expertise in the nonwoven hygiene market.
